JS5 Rey
The best-performing Open Class sailplane flying today: 24.2 m span, up to 69:1 glide ratio — as a pure glider or with the SOLO NEO self-launcher.
The JS5 was designed with one goal: to be the best Open Class sailplane in the world. Its new, smaller inner wing on the optimised JS2 fuselage makes it the king of the 24.2-metre class. As the official JS partner in Switzerland we guide your configuration personally.

Why the JS5
Dr. Johan Bosman's team ran the numbers across many wingspans — 24 metres proved optimal for the Open Class: maximum performance with manageable structure, stiffness and ground handling.
Lightweight construction lets the JS5 climb in small thermals and hold high speeds. For pilots who prefer something more compact and competition-friendly, 18-metre wingtips are planned as an additional option.
- 69 : 1
- Best glide ratio
- 24.2 m
- Wingspan (18 m planned)
- Pure / SOLO
- Propulsion (JET optional)
- 9 G
- Cockpit crash resistance

Propulsion options
Pure — unpowered
The JS5 is also available without an engine: the lightest variant, with the lowest empty weight and the most room for water ballast — for fields with a tow or winch, and for uncompromising competition flying.
SOLO NEO self-launch
The retractable pylon system carries the SOLO® 2625-02i NEO Silent: a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected twin-cylinder, 50 kW (64 hp), for true self-launch. Runs on automotive or aviation gasoline, smooth and reliable.
MD-TJ-42 jet sustainer
The MD-TJ-42 jet sustainer is the perfect match for JS gliders: one switch, one throttle dial, with no noticeable performance loss when the jet is extended. Reliable, efficient and remarkably easy to use.
Class & certification
Open Class, certified under EASA CS-22; type certification via M&D Flugzeugbau, the EASA-approved design organisation. 18-metre wingtips are planned for the future.
